Undergraduate Academic Programs and Majors
The School of Health Professions offers bachelor degrees in Health Sciences and Nursing. There are also several combined degree programs in ostheopathic medicine, occupational therapy, and physician assistant studies.
Bachelor of Science (B.S.)
Health Sciences: Bachelor of Science (B.S.) - Department of Interdisciplinary Health Sciences
The Bachelor of Health Sciences offers students an excellent foundation in health sciences as well as liberal arts and basic sicences. It is designed to prepare graduates for entry-level administrative positions in private and public sectors ofhealth care. Broadly educated students with knowledge of contemporary health care issues and services are ready for employment in the pharmaceutical industry, medical centers, clinics, community health centers, government health departments, fitness and wellness centers, and the health insurance industry. In addition, graduates may pursue advanced studies leading to careers in occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant studies, dentistry, optometry, podiatry, speech language pathology, health information management and other health related professions or business.
Health and Wellness: Bachelor of Science (B.S.) - Department of Interdisciplinary Health Sciences
The Bachelor of Science in Health and Wellness offers students an excellent foundation in health, science and liberal arts. Broadly educated students with knowledge of contemporary healthcare issues and services are ready for employment in the pharmaceutical industry, medical centers, clinics, community health centers, government health departments, fitness and wellness centers, and the health insurance industry. According to US Bureau of Labor Statistics, careers related to exercise, wellness, and health promotion are projected to grow faster than average and that job prospects in these fields are favorable. The Affordable Care Act, rising cost of health care, an aging population, and concerns about childhood obesity have increased the need for individuals trained to address these issues. In addition, graduates may pursue advances study in fields such as nursing, public health, health administration, social work, and health information technology.
Nursing: Bachelor of Science (B.S.) - Department of Nursing
NYIT's nursing program prepares students for a specialization in transcultural nursing. Transcultural nursing provides a vital, holistic approach to care that gives nurses the ability to go beyond treating a patient's symptom. Transcultural nursing takes patient care to an even higher level by incorporating the cultural beliefs and experiences of patients and their health-care professionals. Treatment plans for patients can be tailored to culturally based health-care practices, beliefs, traditions, communication styles, family roles, dietary preferences, and more.
Combined Degree Programs
Physical Therapy: Combined B.S./DPT
The Combined Bachelor of Science in Life Science/Doctor of Physical Therapy is a 6 year program (3 + 3 model allowing for 3 years of pre-professional courses and a 3 year professional phase). The program in Physical Therapy is a Doctorate program providing entry-level professional education in Physical Therapy. The Physical Therapy program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy (CAPTE). This combined degree program is designed for freshman who wish to be admitted to the Program in Physical Therapy following the completion of three years of undergraduate work.
Occupational Therapy: Combined B.S./M.S.
The Combined Bachelor of Science in Life Science/Master of Science in Occupational Therapy is a 5 and a half year program (3 + 2 1/2: 3 years of pre-professional courses and a 2 1/2 year professional phase). The master’s degree program provides entry-level professional education in occupational therapy.
Physician Assistant: Combined B.S./M.S.
The combined Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences/Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies is a six-year program (three years of undergraduate courses through the BS Life Sciences (PA Option) program and three years of graduate courses through the MS Physician Assistant Studies program). The program in Physician Assistant Studies is a master's degree program that provides an entry-level physician assistant professional education.

Clinical Nutrition: Master of Science (M.S.)
The Clinical Nutrition program offers an all online graduate program to meet a variety of professional needs. The Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition is a clinically focused program that integrates biomedical and nutrition sciences to develop an understanding of medical nutrition therapy. The program is available in a flexible format that can be accessed by students from diverse backgrounds.

Occupational Therapy: Master of Science (M.S.)
The occupational therapy program at NYIT offers students an opportunity to earn a master's degree in occupational therapy. There is also a combined B.S./M.S. program for students who do not have a bachelor's degree that meets the admission requirements of the master's program. The occupational therapy program is held at NYIT's Old Westbury, Long Island campus.

Doctoral Programs
Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT)
Physical therapy is a health profession whose primary purpose is the promotion of optimal human health and function through the application of scientific principles to prevent, identify, assess, correct, or alleviate acute or prolonged movement dysfunctions. Physical therapy encompasses areas of specialized competence and includes the development of new principles and applications to meet existing and emerging health needs more effectively. Other professional activities that serve the purpose of physical therapy are research, education, consultation, and administration.
